“What do you mean by saying we should give this relationship some more time?”
“Are you mad? I don’t have any free time to spare, at least not for you”
“But Faiz… I can’t even imagine my life without you.”
“Do one thing, take some sleeping pills! It will help you to get some sleep, at least for tonight.”
Faizan ended the call. He always used his left hand to do so, always. As soon as he pressed that button, his sight went to the watch that he was sporting on his wrist of the same hand.
The gold-plated watch compelled the memories to flow from his mind into his heart and continued its journey with the blood completing its uninterrupted cycles throughout the body. It was his twenty second birthday when he was gifted this watch by her girl friend Mayra.
“Thank you so much. I simply love it.”
“After all our choices are so similar.”
“..and I love you.”
He could smell her aroma in his bedroom. Place where they shared some lovely moments, strangely not together. It was his routine to listen the romantic songs and thinking about Mayra every lonely night. Fantasies would start to pour in and continue to flourish even in his dreams every time those soothing tunes made their way into his soul. The case was completely different now, he was feeling suffocated in there, was it because of anger or guilt? Who knows! He could no longer tolerate that place. He went outside to breathe some fresh air. He believed things have to move on.
The first step into the veranda and he decided to sit on the swing where they had most of their profound conversations. He was surely missing her immensely.
“Who do you love more, me or your doggie?”
“Obviously you, my cuddly teddy bear”
“But there is a problem. There is someone else in my life.”
“I love your doggie.”
And she ran after him for his life, to catch the love of her life. But this time he was limping with a heavy heart because she was missing. Sitting on the fourth step of the stairs leading to the terrace, the exact point where he proposed Mayra, more reminiscences chased him to take away his peace. Faizan was a perfect Leo, a romantic and possessive lover.
“You are beautiful and you know it.”
“But the loveliest is the person who is beneath this beautiful face, the thing which matters the most for me is your soul.”
Hearts started pumping even harder.
“And I want to appreciate that every single day, forever till eternity. Will you marry me?”
And the answer was “YES!”
The very next second, Mayra smiling with a ring in her finger, with a weirdo named Faizan who was jumping and screaming everywhere.
Now, he was screaming. Screaming in resentment where they met the last time. While staring the electric cable wires through the window, as he did that day, he remembered the bitter talk.
“How can you do this to me?”
“I don’t want to talk you about this again.”
“YOU HAVE TO”
“You don’t want to understand.”
“I know everything.”
“You have a dirty narrow-mind and I can’t do anything about it. I am leaving now. I will talk to you when you will be in your senses.”
“I think we should talk later when both of us are in a sane state.”
And she left.
He went back into the bedroom where he received and ended the call. The cell phone rang. It was a short text message.
“Can we give it another chance?”
He typed, “I am sorry.”
